Who here watches a lot of comedy movies? For years and years I've found some comedy movies completely unfunny and an insult to human intelligence.

I've been asking myself for some time what is that people find funny about certain comedians. I'm talking mainly about movies. Comedy movies seem to not always find the fine line between funny and completely ridiculous. But of course I have nothing to prove so since they are usually blockbusters. Films such as Ace Ventura, Dumb and Dumber, Holy Man, etc made millions and millions of dollars and made a lot of people either rich or richer but are they worth all that money and time spent by moviegoers? What is so great about them? I've been asking those questions myself for quite a while and decided to look for answers in the good old internet. Eventually I've found this forum thread from Live Journal, check it out for yourselves :)

The title struck me so bad I had to name this thread after it, and much of its content, that is, the different answers to the question provided me with plenty of material to understand something behind the mindset of the American comedy moviegoer that keeps fueling those large film makers into producing even dumber movies.  Although my quest is not over, I really wanted to share with you this authentic pieces of explanation that will provide me, and maybe you, an alternative to help understand what the hell is going on with today's comedy movies, its audiences, and most important their actors that seem to have great personality but are awfully rich by doing what they do best, acting like jackasses.
